How To Choose The Right Door Hardware?

2026-08-13

The right door hardware must match the door’s weight, material, location, opening direction and security purpose. A handle may suit the room visually but still fail if the hinge capacity, latch function or finish is incorrect. Buyers working with a wholesale supplier of architectural door hardware should therefore begin with the door specification rather than selecting products from appearance alone.

Start with the Door, Frame and Opening

Before looking at handles or finishes, record the basic door information:

  • door material;

  • door width and height;

  • actual door weight;

  • door thickness;

  • frame material;

  • opening direction;

  • expected opening angle;

  • interior or exterior location;

  • daily operating frequency;

  • required privacy or security level.

A hollow interior door and a solid entrance door should not use the same hinge specification simply because their dimensions look similar. Weight distribution, door construction and operating frequency all affect the load carried by the hardware.

Match the Hinge to the Door Weight

Hinges support the door and determine how smoothly it swings. Check the manufacturer’s reference load, door thickness, door width, hinge quantity and opening angle.

Concealed hinges are useful for flush and minimalist doors because the mechanism remains hidden when the door is closed. Adjustable models also help installers correct vertical, lateral and depth alignment after fitting.

Our adjustable concealed door hinge supports three-dimensional adjustment and a maximum opening angle of 180 degrees. Its stated reference capacity is 80 kg with two hinges, subject to the specified door dimensions and correct installation.

For heavier doors, buyers should choose a model with a suitable tested or stated load rather than adding random hinges without reviewing spacing and door construction.

Select the Correct Handle Function

A pull handle provides a gripping point but does not normally retract a latch. It is frequently used on glass doors, entrance doors and doors fitted with separate closing or locking hardware.

A lever handle rotates to retract a latch and is generally easier to operate than a small round knob. Lever products may be configured for passage, privacy or lockable entrance applications.

When selecting the handle, check:

  1. spindle and latch compatibility;

  2. door thickness;

  3. fixing method;

  4. backset;

  5. handing, where applicable;

  6. escutcheon or backplate dimensions;

  7. required lock function.

Our lever handle collection contains different round-rose, passage, bathroom and entrance configurations.

Decide How the Door Should Lock

Not every door needs the same security function.

A corridor or living-room door may require passage hardware without a key. A bathroom normally needs privacy locking with an emergency-release method. A storeroom, office or entrance door may require keyed access.

The lock, latch, strike plate and handle must work as a coordinated set. Buyers should not assume that any handle fits any lock case.

A wholesale supplier of architectural door hardware will need the lock function, cylinder arrangement and regional requirements before confirming a complete schedule.

Choose Material and Finish for the Environment

Stainless steel is commonly selected for its strength, corrosion resistance and clean appearance. Brass and zinc-alloy components may also be appropriate depending on the product structure and finish.

Finish selection should consider more than color. Satin stainless steel, polished stainless steel, black PVD and brass-toned PVD finishes respond differently to fingerprints, scratches and surrounding materials.

Hardware installed near an entrance, bathroom or coastal environment needs more careful corrosion consideration than hardware used in a dry bedroom.

Remember the Supporting Accessories

A functioning door set may also need:

  • latch or lock case;

  • cylinder and keys;

  • strike plate;

  • door stop;

  • door holder;

  • closer;

  • flush bolt;

  • signage;

  • mounting screws.

Door stops are often overlooked until the handle begins striking a wall. Our stainless steel magnetic door stop can hold a door open while helping protect nearby walls and furniture.

How Our Factory Supports Door Hardware Selection

We manufacture architectural, furniture and bathroom hardware, including lever handles, pull handles, knobs, door hinges, concealed hinges and door accessories. Our experienced engineering team can develop a new product from project specifications or modify an existing design.

Production is monitored through our quality-control system, while our on-site management team coordinates manufacturing and delivery. This allows us to discuss dimensions, materials, finishes and packaging as connected purchasing requirements.

Request a Complete Door Hardware Recommendation

Send us the door schedule, drawings, door weight, thickness, required function, finish and purchasing quantity. We can help identify the appropriate hinge, handle and related accessories.
