A door closer returns the door to the closed position and manages closing speed. It may also include latching-speed and backcheck adjustments.
Closer power must match the door width, weight, air pressure, and operating environment. Excessive closing force can reduce accessibility, while insufficient force may prevent reliable latching.
Stops prevent the door or handle from striking the wall. Holders maintain an open position where permitted.
Their location affects leverage on the hinges and frame. Fire doors must not be held open by unapproved devices.
